There are a multitude of ways to increase security of the cloud and they are not super complicated. The first one is to implement extra security measures when deciding what users can access. This allows for admins to be the only people who can make significant changes which eliminates the risk of error by a user that doesn’t know what they are doing. This would not cost extra money but whoever is in charge of the cloud would have to go into all the profiles that can access the cloud and decide what actions each user is allowed to do. While this is not an outside threat, sometimes employees can cause problems on accident which in turn affects everyone using the cloud.
Another way to protect the cloud is to always have a backup of the cloud. It can be onto another cloud or even physical storage if possible. The only people that would have access to this backup would be the few people who actually manage the cloud. This would be ideal in case the main cloud gets hacked, partially or fully erased, or if there was some other malfunction. By keeping a full backup of the cloud it allows the company to feel safer knowing that everything they put on the cloud is also somewhere else in case anything would happen.
Lastly a company should use cloud services that secure their data. If a cloud service does not secure the data being placed on the cloud it makes it much easier for non-authorized people to gain access to the cloud. By having a cloud service that encrypts the data being placed on the cloud it greatly minimizes the risk of a data breach. This is for outside threats as opposed to the first option which was to defend against user error which is an internal threat.
